Signed by Belgian artist Marie Michielssen, the Poloma lamp features a Linen lampshade and a superb Enamelled sandstone base. The base features a dove, a symbol of peace, hope and love. This Lamp evokes Picasso's sketches and pays tribute to the painter's daughter, Paloma. A stylish detail: the twisted Fabric cable adds a refined retro dimension to the Lamp. The Sandstone base reveals the irregular shapes created by hand-molding. Marie Michielssen has a predilection for materials she can shape by hand. She lets her intuition guide her, giving shape to objects with an atypical, poetic allure. The designer never starts by putting her ideas down on paper. No technical drawings or 3D models on the computer: she prefers to let the material express itself during the creative process by modeling it by hand. During modeling, I often play with primary shapes such as a cylinder, a ball or a square. I put them together to create new shapes. It's all very intuitive.
