Anubias barteri var. barteri\n\nAnubias\nbarteri var. barteri from West Africa is an undemanding plant. It grows\nsomewhat larger than Anubias barteri var. nana but is grown in the same\nconditions. Grown plants will grow to 25-45 cm tall and a creeping rhizome from 10-15 cm or \nmore. Anubias barteri varies considerably in terms of size and leaf \nshape.\nLike other Anubias-species, it is best planted in a shady \nspot to minimize algae growth on the leaves. It is also suitable for \nterrariums and paludariums. Herbivorous fish do not eat the very tough \nand robust leaves.\nFor a long time there has a myth been \ngoing around that anubias (when pruned or cut) would be poisonous to \nshrimp and other inverts.
