Having trained as a cabinetmaker, this French decorator who specialised in "series furniture" always knew how to combine modernism and democratisation. He played a major role in the emergence of post-war French design. Designed in 1947, the C chair fits fully into the period of Reconstruction in France. It was designed to adapt to the constraints of the post-war period, when there was a need to rebuild while space was in short supply. Nice and compact, it was created to adapt to the reduced dimensions of urban apartments built at the end of the Second World War. Although compact, the "C" chair is very comfortable. Its strong personality comes from its two rear legs, generously proportioned, which support most of the weight. Marcel Gascoin brought great care to the construction details found in the cabinetmaking techniques used for the C chair.
