La Hechicera Dark Fine Aged Rum

La Hechicera

Tasting Notes La Hechicera – pronounced etch-ee-she-rah – means “enchantress” and it’s impossible not to fall for this Colombian’s charms. There are very few privately produced premium rums from Colombia so the Solera 21 Extra Añejo de Colombia Rum is a rare treat. A blend of 12- to 21-year-old rums from the most biodiverse nation on the planet La Hechicera was created by the Riascos family in Barranquilla wedged between the Magdalena River and the Caribbean sea. Their Maestro Ronero Giraldo Mituoka Kagana is the son of a Japanese immigrant who started his career cutting sugar cane for the Cuban revolution and is clearly a master of his art. With no additives or sugar the smoothness of La Hechicera comes purely from the noble wood of the ex-Bourbon barrels it has been aged in. Winner of countless gold medals this silky and creamy rum offers a bounty of salted caramel toffee chocolate orange roasted plantain freshly brewed coffee prunes cracked peppercorns polished wood and plum crumble with vanilla custard. Stylistically it will appeal to fans of Diplomatico and Ron Zacapa and its new makeover with a blue wax seal and rainforest motif makes it a stunning addition to any rum collection.
