Pols Potten Candle stick Metal Metal. Dimensions: 14 x 8 cm x H 14 cm. With its strange, melting and organic shapes, the Drip candlestick is a bona fide piece of art, created by Dutch artist and sculptor, Pascal Smelik. Resembling melted wax, or fusing metal, this candlestick is made from cast aluminium. Pascal Smelik's work has been exhibited in galleries and in the leading international design fairs around the world. Pascal Smelik's experimental work is guided by his fascination for the concepts of malformation, distortion, and growth, as well as by their fusion with natural phenomena and processes. The objects created by Pascal Smelik are the result of an experimental approach in which the risks and so-called mistakes are an integral part of the process. To create the Drip candlestick, Smelik first used hot, liquid wax submerged in cold water to create a candlestick prototype in wax. Working in collaboration with the studio Pols Potten, he then developed a method for mass producing these candlesticks in cast aluminium. Drip is an elegant combination of craftsmanship and modern techniques. Smelik has a spontaneous way of designing traditional products. He sees the tiny issues and risky design flaws during his creative process more like a source of discovery than as a failure.
