This beautiful, 1/8-size violin is the Scarlatti VL 1/8. We usually find this size in the hands of children aged around five; for even younger (smaller) players, choose the 1/10 version. The Scarlatti violins are made entirely of solid wood, using spruce for the top and maple for the rest of the sound box. This set, including case, bow and fine tuners, is a good fit for the parent who wants to take a look at whether the violin is the right instrument for their child. The violin size 1/8 The size 1/8 is suitable for children with an arm length of about 45 cm. You measure this from the middle of the palm to the neck, directly below the jaw. The hand should now be able to fold comfortably around the curl, with the fingers pointing to the face and the elbow very slightly bent. If in doubt between two sizes, it is best to take the smaller of the two. By the way, 1/8 does not mean that this violin is eight times smaller than a normal 4/4 violin; the difference is much smaller.
