ARTISANAL MEZCAL – Ilegal Joven is an unaged mezcal made in Oaxaca by brothers and fourth-generation mezcaleros Armando and Alvaro Hernandez using 100% espadin agave. FULL BODIED WITH SUBTLE SMOKE – Ilegal Joven is a fantastic example of a Oaxacan Mezcal. It is full-bodied with notes of eucalyptus, green peppers, subtle smoke, citrus and red chilies. ILLICIT ORIGINS WORTHY OF ITS NAME - Ilegal Mezcal was founded by USA-born John Rexer in 2004. John hadn’t been able to find any good Mezcal suppliers in Guatemala when he opened his bar, the iconic Café No Se in Guatemala, so he went to Oaxaca and started smuggling it across the border in a variety of creative ways.
