The Aqua One 2C carbon and polymer wool cartridge is a highly effective solution for aquarium maintenance, efficiently trapping fish waste and purifying water for 4 to 6 weeks before replacement is needed. This cleverly designed cartridge features a polymer wool top layer that balances density to capture solids without restricting water flow. The polymer is bonded to a carbon tray that securely contains carbon granules, preventing mess and ensuring optimal water distribution throughout the filter. As water passes through, it allows for even utilization of the attached black sponge and Bio-Noodle layers. While the 2C cartridge does not cultivate nitrifying bacteria, it effectively protects these beneficial layers from harmful solids and chemicals. Regular checks on the cartridge's performance are recommended; if water pools on the surface, it indicates clogging and a need for replacement. Although the cartridge requires changing every six weeks, the foam and Bio-Noodle layers have a longer lifespan. Regularly changing some Bio Noodles monthly and replacing the sponge layer at least once a year will maintain efficiency, while the sponge can be gently rinsed in aquarium water between replacements.
