Wigston, despite its close proximity to Leicester, has always been of an independent mind. With origins that can be traced back for over a thousand years, it has witnessed and been a part of the tremendous changes in English life over the past millenium. This fascinating collection of over 220 photographs records the many changes that have occurred in Wigston from the Victorian era to more recent times.\nThe book takes a chronological tour through the town's history and begins with early images of Wigston, many of which have now been swept away for new development. Some of the town's former industries are featured including Toon and Black's shoe factory in Saffron Road and the more recent Morrison Electric which was based in Garden Street. Wigs ton has proved to be a place in which people linger, names that appear in the oldest documents relating to Wigs ton can still be found in the town today.
