Author Paul Chrystal isn\u2019t a railway buff. He is more of a local historian for the counties of Yorkshire and Durham. Hence this is not your regular railway book by a railway enthusiast, so much as railway subjects seen through the eyes of somebody whose main interest is local history. The book is an interesting miscellany of railway photographs such as track being lifted in Hetton le Hole in 1960, the coal sheds in Hartlepool, the sidings at Consett Iron Works, and coal picking on railway embankments during the 1920s miners\u2019 strike.
