The 117th Cavalry briefly visited England in 1942 and landed in North Africa. There, it provided close protection to Eisenhower and then Churchill before leaving for Italy and the spring offensives of 1944. Landing in Provence, the cavalrymen moved up the Rh\u00F4ne Valley before confronting the Panzers at Montelimar and Montrevel. They then crossed the Vosges Mountains and Alsace, and encountered the counteroffensive of the winter of 1944-1945.
