The phosphate PO4 is a by-product of the breakdown of organic matter such as food leftovers, fish waste, etc. It can lead to algal blooms. While it is best for PO43- levels to be as low as possible, values up to 0.5 mg/l are acceptable. Warning: Phosphate tends to form poorly soluble salts, which accumulate in the sediment at the bottom. Therefore, make sure to regularly remove the sediment from your aquarium.
