This is the first new generation locomotive project for the renewal of the railways of the State Railways. The project was developed by Fiat Ferroviaria Savigliano in the late seventies. They were the first diesel locomotives in Italy with the orange livery. The locomotives are suitable for freight train service with a maximum speed of 100km/h as well as for heavy shunting at reduced speed.
