Graf Carat septic tanks extract floating and removable material from domestic wastewater through mechanical cleaning. Each inhabitant requires 500 litres of capacity. For an assumed volume of 150 litres, wastewater passes through the system in 3 days. The tanks must have a total volume of at least 2000 litres. A 2000-litre system suffices for 4 inhabitants; an extra 500 litres is necessary for each additional inhabitant. These tanks are lightweight, installable without a crane even in difficult locations, and have reasonable purchase and installation costs. Low maintenance allows for cleaning through shafts.
