Bergamot oil is extracted from orange trees. With its distinctive citrusy smell, bergamot essential oil has long been popular not just for its scent, but its alleged refreshing, soothing and uplifting properties. The specific orange tree from which bergamot essential oil is derived - known by the Latin name of Citrus bergamia - is grown around the world in warm climates. However, probably the best-known source of high-quality bergamot oil is Italy. Indeed, it is the southern Italian town of Bergamo that gives bergamot essential oil its unique name. To ensure only the finest quality essential oil, we also source ours from Italy; specifically from the sunny climate from Sicily. Our bergamot oil is extracted by cold compression of ripe orange fruit peel. This pure extract then passes through steam distillation to remove any furocoumarins. This distillation process creates a far more refined end product known in the industry by the acronym "FCF". This precision processing renders the end product ideal as a massage oil or for use in homemade fragrances.
