Nicotiana Sylvestris is a great choice for adding drama to summer borders – once established it can grow up to 120cm tall! Summer flowering white blooms will emerge from July which have a heavenly night scent. Easy to sow and grow and is suitable for growing in sun or shade. Sow on the surface of a good free draining seed compost from late winter to early spring. Make sure the compost is moist but not wet and seal in a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 10-20 days at 21C (70F). Do not exclude light which is beneficial to germination. Transplant when large enough to handle and grow on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost 60cm (24in) apart in sun or part shade on rich well drained soil.
