Swiss Chard 'Fordhook Giant’ is a very well-known and popular variety, dating back to the 1920’s! You can expect an abundance of tall gorgeous glossy forest green leaves appearing from March all the way through to October – Plenty of opportunity to experiment in various dishes! The great thing about this Swiss chard is that it is GIANT, as stated in the title, growing up to 60cm (24”)! Direct sow Leaf Beet seed outdoors from March to August. Grow Swiss Chard in a well prepared, moist, fertile seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½") in drills 30cm (12") apart. Thin seedlings to 7cm (3") apart for 'baby leaves' which will be ready to harvest approximately 50 days from sowing. For larger chards/leaves thin to 15cm (6") apart, or 23cm (9") for mature plants.
