The Universal Carrier was widely used by British and Commonwealth forces during WW2 from the BEF in France in 1940 through the North African Campaign and throughout North Western Europe after D-Day. Commonly used for carrying personnel, equipment and ammunition, they were also used as a weapons platform for machine guns, mortars or anti tank rifles. Over 113,000 were built making it the most produced armoured fighting vehicle in  history.\n\nOriginally there were a number of different variants but by 1940 there were standardised into the Universal Carrier of which the Mk I was the original Universal Carrier.
